The last week I have been immersed in establishing a Code Club type extra curricular option for my school. I see the familiarity of Scratch being a good lead into Python. I already teach Scratch for a short block with the whole class, but feel this is an option for those who want to develop further. #cserTask1
The Kano project, based on Raspberry Pi looks like a promising way to expose older children to hardware. The fact that it is financially attainable, means that children can have the pride and joy of "ownership".
Since the OS is on a removable SD card, many students could use the one device. Resources built into Kano OS look great, too (www.kano.me)

I'm also amazed with how 3D printing has been used, particularly in the field of medicine. Scientists have been working on 3D printing human organs. Hopefully one day people won't have to be on long waiting lists! I love this as an example of how the field of computer science and medicine work together. #3Dprinting #cserTask1

Mobile technologies provide exciting new opportunities for students to engage in programming and develop logical thinking as they engage with their devices. Instead of purchasing game apps, they can start creating them. Recently introduced to GameSalad (for PC and Mac); this task has sent me off to explore what's available for students to use on tablets. Released this month, Tynker is free on the App store and uses visual code blocks. BTW, Hopscotch has good reports too (

Here's one of my favourite videos to inspire all of you. It's the 'why' of why Google is involved in CS education & tech. It's the 'why' of why teachers and education matters. It's the 'why' of why we need more people in STEM careers. I love the fact that each and every person doing this course has an opportunity to raise the expectations of what kids can do, and will do – even if we don't know how we're going to do it.
I enjoying gaming and have a big interest in involving games in education. I also enjoy technology. Minecraft merges these two loves into one amazing artifact that can be used in schools.
Colleagues of mine in Australia, Singapore and th eUAE have been able to create courses in English, Maths, Science and History using Minecraft. The great opportunity that exists for us as educators is that the students will be keen to help facilitate their own learning as Minecraft has currency with them.
