Lesson idea – Plagiarism
After students are familiar with the story of the Little Red Hen, (first written by M.M. Dodge, 1874) suggest an alternate ending where a character steals the bread and tries to sell it as his own creation. The students could discuss the way Mrs Hen would feel and the ethics of the other animal and also those who contemplate buying the bread, knowing that it had been stolen. Discuss how the students would feel if it were their hard work that was stolen and someone else took the credit. Next students could adapt the story, using an online written essay or artwork instead of bread, and humans instead of animals, to make a real life version of the story.
