Passwords Lesson Idea:
Lesson Idea for Passwords
Watch the Hector’s World video on how to make strong, rememberable passwords and copy the process. First model your thinking while you create a new password. (Be sure that the students understand a real password wouldn’t be shared aloud.) Then provide questions to get the students thinking about which phrase, numbers, and characters they will use in their own password. Students create their own passwords independently and silently. Then play the game where the children step forward for sensible password features, or backwards for unsecure password features. Students who make it over the line first, find struggling students and coach them into rewriting better passwords. When the whole class is over the line, the written passwords are destroyed in a safe but exciting way – mulched, shredded, ashes etc. to highlight the importance of secrecy.
