Task Six – Option Two

My activity is aimed at year 1 or 2. In this activity, the students choose one of their routines (ie – getting ready for bed or school) and write an algorithm outlining how to complete this routine. For example, getting ready for school may look like:

  1. Wake up
  2. Say good morning to family
  3. Decide what to eat for breakfast
  4. Make breakfast
  5. Eat breakfast and pack away dishes
  6. Brush teeth
  7. Get dressed into school uniform
  8. Determine what is required for school (ie homework, reading folder, lunch etc)
  9. Pack bag
  10. Tell parents you’re ready to leave
  11. Get dropped off at school

If the students are not strong writers, this could also be compelted as a sequencing activity in which the activities/steps are provided and the students need to place them in the appropriate order. This could be done in the form of a worksheet, floor activity or interactive activity on the interactive whiteboard or ipad. Once the students understand the concept and how to order tasks, they could be presented with various ‘routines’ that they need to order correctly (ie bedtime).
