In this lesson a student’s grandparent will come in and be interviewed by the class about their life when they were young and the technologies they had available to them. They will discuss things like TV (or lack theoreof), communication, phones and computers etc. Students will then complete a picture sort using a venn diagram (past, present, both) and will sort the images of the different technologies into the section.
Students would then be allocated a classmate. Half the class will write the classmate an email, whilst the other half will write them a letter that will be posted. This will highlight the disparity in how long these things take and used to take. In a follow up lesson (once all the letters have been received) the class will complete compare and contrast activities as to how technologies have changed (ie – phones).
