Task 7: Option 2

Option 2

A good classroom activity that incorporates a visual programming environment involves using the maze game on Blockly. The teacher could demonstrate how Blockly works on the board by exploring a pre-made set of instructions and going through how each part works and what the java script means and represents. Once students have a firm handle on this, they could complete levels 1-10 by themselves on computers. If computers were limited, the task could also be completed in pairs or small groups. This activity addresses the producing and implementing strands as it involves using algorithms. Afterwards, discussion could be promoted about how the repetition loop was used to make the program easier to read.
