To encourage students to explore sequences of instructions, the whole class could be tasked to draw a picture based on a set of instructions. The class would not be shown what the end product would look like and so students are only influenced by the instructions given. The class’ drawings will most likely have some differences and discussions could be encouraged as to which instructions were easy to follow, and which were a little more tricky.
Students could then be tasked with drawing a simple picture and writing or recording the instructions they would give for a partner to try and draw. Depending on the ability and age of the children this activity can be made more simple with less steps or more complicated with a number of steps.
