Task 5: Option 1

In this two part lesson, students would first create informative profiles about themselves on a word document. I would tell the students this is a way to get to know each other. The students can share their name, hobbies, friends, etc on the profiles. Students would engage in technology by creating their profiles on computers. These profiles would be printed out for the second part of the lesson.

The second part of the lesson would have students watch the Behind the News video “Internet Safety.”

After watching the video, I would explicitly teach the student’s what personal information means. The students would then take their profiles and highlight in green what is appropriate and safe to share online. The class would then discuss what students think is appropriate and innappropriate to share online.

For younger year groups, a different lesson could be having a character profile from a story that the students have read. The different information about the character would be written on cards. The students would have to sort the information according to what would be safe to share online and what wouldn’t be safe.
