Task 5: Option 1

My lesson idea for “sharing information online safely” and “behaving online appropriately” for younger students (approximately year 2) would begin with a guided reading of the book “Once Upon A Time… Online” by David Bedford and Rosie Reeve – a story about online safety and the pros and cons of going online. This would be followed by a discussion about what in the book were safe or unsafe practises. http://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/33516109-once-upon-a-time-online

Students will then be given a sheet containing text bubbles filled with pieces of personal information – for example, full name, birthday, home address, bank details, and so on. Students will be given instructions to colour the bubbles of information that they think they can safely share in green, and the information that they feel isn’t safe to share in red.

The teacher will then sit the students on the mat and go through each piece of information, discussing why bubbles were coloured a certain way with the students.
