Task 7: Moving on grids
An activity I have done in a Year 2 classroom is called “Moving on Grid”. The students work in pair and two giant grid maps were set up in the classroom. One student acts as a robot and the second student has to give clear instructions (coding process) to the ‘robot’ to move from one point to another following the track shown on a grid card.
Blank grid cards were also provided to the students to create their own track. The students were focused on creating a complex track to challenge their peers in providing the right coding to the ‘robot’ to clear the grid.
The concept for this activity is the same as Beebots and it was carried out as part of a Math lesson on mapping and positioinal language.
