Task 1: Option 2

Tray return robots are currently being used in Singapore to help reduce the workload of elderly cleaners in food court settings. Since greater emphasis has been placed on ensuring that tables and surfaces are regularly wiped down during the COVID-19 pandemic, these cleaners can now spend their time fulfilling these safety measures instead.

What’s interesting is that these robots possess a sensor function which allows them to come to a stop when their path is blocked (i.e., when a customer is returning a tray or making a turn when they approach a table or wall) and excuse themselves verbally through a crowd. Additionally, the robots are also programmed in such a way that they are able to locate their way to the washing basins once all their shelves are filled.
