On my most recent practicum, I conducted a ‘Smarties Investigation’ with my Year 4 class to find out which colour is the most common in a packet of Smarties. This task integrated hands-on experiences to help guide the students through the steps of data collection, representation and analysis, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The image below shows an example of a data table that the students filled in and used to represent their data, which was also later transferred and represented as a bar graph and analysed to help answer the investigation questions.
