Computational Chemistry
So my training (as mentioned previously) is in science, namely chemistry and molecular biology. There is a branch of chemistry called computational chemistry which relies on software to visualise drug molecules and the receptors they bind to.
Through a 3d simulation, researchers are able to design a molecule that binds more strongly to the receptor, meaning a smaller dose of the drug will have the same effect but fewer side effects.
