The activity will have two parts.
Firstly, students as a whole class group will explain the procedure of how to tie a shoe. The teacher will tie a shoe following each instruction exactly as it is said and explained. The result will likely be an incorrectly or awkwardly tied shoe.
Students will then be placed in small groups and asked to explain the exact procedure of making a ham, cheese, and tomato toasted sandwich. Students will be provided with the list of ingredients: two slices of bread, a piece of ham, a piece of cheese, a piece of tomato, butter, a plate, and a toasted sandwich maker.
The aim is that students learn to write specifically and concisely and using the correct terminology or labelling objects or ingredients to write a procedure with better understanding of the process.
