In the context of Cyber security, there are various terms such as cyber awareness and cyber safety, that interchangeably refer to the same idea, however, each have their own specific focus. Cyber Security is the practice of protecting computers, networks, programs, and data from digital attacks. Cyber Awareness is the knowledge, attitude and behaviours that aim to protect our information assets. Cyber Safety is the safe and responsible use of information communication and technologies. Fundamentally, the difference between all three of these topics, is that cyber safety focuses on people while cybersecurity involves information. Cyber awareness is the understanding of a potential threat and how the user can avoid them. Cyber Safety uses technology to help protect the physical and emotional well-being of students, faculty and staff on campus. It is critical that Cyber Safety, Cyber Security and Cyber Awareness are taught in the classroom and that teachers are always at the forefront of best practice in cyber security and awareness. These topics need to be taught in-depth as it is particularly important subject for children and young adults.
