Have the class create simple mazes (in groups of 3-4 students) on the oval using cones or any other markers. Basketball courts, which already have lines, could also be used. Have students give instructions to each other to move through the maze. Students must do only what is instructed, not fill in ‘gaps’ in instructions. Discuss which challenges students had in giving accurate instructions, and how they modified their instructions as a result. Then introduce students to Lesson 1 on Scratch (Secret room seaking treasure) which teaches the basics of giving precise instructions to move the sprite towards her goal. Complete the first task as a whole class, then have students work through subsequent parts individually or in pairs.
