TASK 1 – Assistive Technology for those with special needs
I am a Primary ICT teacher in Melbourne. This video shows how Nick, who has cerebral palsy, is able to do many everyday things due to helpful technology. (I usually skip from 1:06 – 1:50 mins). I show this video to my Prep and Grade 1 students to help them think about:
> How technology can be designed for those with special needs.
> How buttons and controls can be added to something (eg. a car) so things can be done in a different way.
> Wireless, mechanical and electronic technology can all be used together.
> How those who find it hard to talk are still very smart.
> Maybe, one day, some of them might help invent something new to help those with special needs.
