Strava

Anything you post online or with an app – it stores your information. This is a very important lesson to explain to students as they might not understand that fully yet.

We looked at some examples of media which save personal information about the individual.

One that I thought of is Strava. This is an app which tracks and records your exercise. Once you select which exercise you want to do; say walk, you then hit record and it will track where you go, how fast you travel etc.

The app is great – however it does use gps to locate where you are. This can become dangerous as if you have your settings on public anyone can find where you are. If I leave my house everyday and do a lap of the block than the information of my address is public on the app for anyone to see.

You can have private settings and only have yourself look at the details; but the information is saved onto the app.
