Cyber security, cyber awareness and cyber safety are all interconnected but they are relatively different. Cyber security refers to the practice of protecting computers, networks, programs, and data from digital attacks. It is using software such as antiviruses and firewalls to protect our data. Cyber awareness is building up our knowledge, attitudes and behaviours in protecting our information and assets. This is performed through education and policies and involves the use of good passwords and being aware of the differences between personal and private information. Cyber safety is the safe and responsible use of Information Communications Technologies. It is our understanding of the digital footprint that occurs with every thing we post about. All three of these concepts are important to be taught in the primary classroom as the world is becoming more and more digitalised and children start to connect to the internet at younger ages than ever. As there are many dangers on the internet, it is important for teachers to educate students about the above concepts in order to make sure they are safe when they are online.
