A lesson idea for safe online communication could be to create an unplugged lesson where each student has a letter box on the back of their chair or on their desk (these could be made out of paper plates, boxes or any recycled materials). Students then communicate via small notes written on paper.
We could present a lesson which shows how
- information is shared with others,
- how it can be interpreted correctly or incorrectly,
- along with the privacy of online messaging.
The notes, even though they were sent to someone purposely, could fall into the hands of someone else. This demonstrates data privacy and how careful we must be with what we put onto the internet.
(there is an option here for a letterbox, but take out the cookies)
