Task 5: Information Systems
Option 1: Think of a lesson idea for “sharing information online safely” or “behaving online appropriately”. Write your idea as a brief description with any links to websites, videos or books that you might use in your lesson. If you are a trainer or leader, you might describe an activity for teachers in a professional development session.
This lesson would be focused on promoting online safety for my students. I would begin this lesson by gathering student’s prior knowledge on internet safety. I would then prompt class conversations through effective questioning asking students questions like; “have you ever seen something online that made you feel worried?” or “do you ask your friends permission before posting photos of others online?” etc. This should engage students and require them to think about their own online experiences.
I would then present this video to my students to develop their understandings of online safety. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxySrSbSY7o
Students would then be required to discuss the main ideas presented in this video with their peers. Students will then work in pairs/groups and present the key ideas/rules and concepts of online safety in poster format and present these to the class.
These posters can then be presented in the classroom as reminders to students to encourage safety whilst using the internet.
