Task 3: Option 2


Students are divided into pairs or groups and are asked to create a word (or sentence) using the binary sheet I have attached. Students are able to encode a word (like their name, favourite animal) using data that represents a certain letter. As they are in pairs or groups, they will then swap their encoded message with a fellow peer who will then decode their message. The sheet attached will act a guide to help them decipher the meaning they are trying to convey or figure out. Thus, this activity is not only engaging and fun as it is in groups, but it is also very informative. The lesson beforehand can talk about what is meant be “encoding” and “decoding”, with this activity being treated as a more engaging lesson that puts that information and knowledge into practise.
