Option 3.


Activity: Binary Bracelets

Students are to work in pairs. For lower years, students use the first letter of their name. For upper primary or brighter students, they may use any letter of their name.

  1. students choose a letter of their name using the Binary Decoder Key.
  2. students fill in the same squares that match the first letter of their name.
  3. cut the bracelet out.
  4. tape the bracelet around their wrist.
  5. students walk around the classroom and share their bracelet and see if their classmates can figure out the letter of their name.

For nicer bracelets, use string or pipe cleaners and beads. Students then choose two colors to represent the coding.
