Interviewing the Elderly

This is an idea for an assignment or ongoing classwork project.

Students would be asked to explore one of the following technologies:

  • Cars
  • Phones
  • Computers
  • Cameras

They would need to present a ‘past’ ‘present’ and ‘future’ – for the past they would do some research and interview someone who lived at least 50 years ago to ask them what the technology was like when they were young. For the present, the student would need to share their own experiences, and a bit of information about how the technology works today. For the future, they would need to imagine what kind of technologies might exist, and design their own future technology. The students would then communicate their learning by:

  • Presenting to the class with posters
  • Creating a video/powerpoint presentation for the class to watch
  • Writing a book with text and images for the class to read.

The teacher could do some examples and provide lots of steps and checkpoints along the way to help scaffold the learning.
