Data Representation: Lesson Idea

Year 4 students can practice their literacy using digital data to then be represented and transferred. Students can work in partners or in groups to create sentences in codes using pictures to represent letters. They can use symbols from the internet or word document to create their ‘secret language’ and give their story to someone in their group to decode their story/sentences. Students will need to know how to create a key of letters to symbols for their group member to follow. An example of the activity may look like this:

(answer= I like dogs)

I =(

D=*

K=+

E=>

G=&

L=$

O=%

S=#

Sentence to solve: (        $(+>      *%&#
