Task 3: Option 3

A fun and engaging activity to teach binary to students is ‘’Binary Bracelets’’. The lesson reviews the idea of binary, introduces a relevant activity and finally summaries the concept. The lesson has the below aims:

  1. Encode letters into binary
  2. Decode binary back to letters
  3. Relate the idea of storing initials on a bracelet to storing information in a computer

The lesson and associated activity can appeal to a variety of students, incorporating craft and computational thinking in an appealing format. Students can work individually or in groups and levels of extension can be utilised. This lesson can also be done remotely (if families can provide the materials), an important point given the most recent global pandemic
