Task 3: Data – Representation (Option 2: encoding and decoding)
This is a really simple and interesting activity that let students understand the concepts of encoding and decoding.
First you create your own code by using different symbols to represent a letter. With the image of a template I inserted, it can help students organise what symbol they want to use for each letter.
After that you can then use the code you created to encode anything you want to say! Like the example in red, I used the code to make the word “hello!”. With the same code, students can now send secret messages to each other!
Just make sure they don’t start sending secret messages during class! =D
