Task 2 – Option 2

As an activity for data collection, students could pick up their chairs, take them outside, line them up against the fence of the school adjacent to a main road and collect the data on the colour of cars driving past. Firstly, the students would enjoy being outside, but also the hands on nature of the data collection gives them a more concrete experience to visualise the source of the data. This data could be used as a means to organize it in the format of a graph. It could also be used as a jumping off point in to talk of independent vs dependent probability, predicting what cars would go past tomorrow, sample size and many more topics.
