Our ocean is such a precious resource and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a problem. Cleaning up the rubbish in the ocean and maintaining a clean place for future generations can be an ongoing problem. However the Ocean Cleanup team has developed a system that “consists of a 600-meter-long floater that sits at the surface of the water and a tapered 3-meter-deep skirt attached below. The floater provides buoyancy to the system and prevents plastic from flowing over it, while the skirt stops debris from escaping underneath”. From here a ship can come and take the rubbish away. This method is expected to take 5 years at a fraction of the cost.
