Weed spraying on farms with technology (Task 1: option 2)

A few years ago my husband worked for local cereal farming group. On their farms they use a sprayer called a WeedIt. In basic terms the sprayer senses the weeds through an infrared camera and then ‘spot sprays’ rather than doing a ‘blanket spray’. (Click on WeedIt above for hyperlink to a clip for a much more precise explanation.) It apparently saves farmers quite a lot of money and there is less chemical usage.

Technology in farming has made some amazing progress. Satellite navigation/GPS for seeding and harvesting is another technology that really isn’t that old, but many farmers already rely on it.
