When participating in the algorithms module I recalled a game I have not used for many years called ‘The Cat in the Hat – I Can Do That!’
The game has a series of cards in numerical order. You must follow card 1, 2 and then 3 to undertake a task correctly. In early years classroom I thought students could work in pairs to direct their partner to follow out the directions in numerical order.
Once partners have completed the task physically I would ask them to write out the sequence in steps that their partner had to undertake. They would them compose their own 3 step algorithm to effectively move a class member to a destination in the room whilst transporting the fish.
