Task 6

Using the code and go mouse bots I attempted several activities with pre-primary aged students. The first task was them coding the mouse to outline a shape. I made large shape outlines (squares and rectangles as the mouse bot only turns at 90 degrees) and the students worked in pairs to program the mouse to move around the perimeter of the shape. The second activity was them playing Snakes and Ladders and using the mouse bots as their marker. I had various floor mat sized boards of the Snakes and Ladder game. Students played together in groups of 4 or 5, rolled their large dice and programmed the mouse to move the number of squares they had rolled. Sometime they had to incorporate a turn in their program and they also had to negotiate going up the ladders and down the snakes. It also involved other skills like number recognition and counting.
