Over the last few years, my students have had accounts with code.org to learn coding and computer science principles.

This link on the same site has two excellent resources to teach binary numbers, including a Flippy Do template and a binary practice activity. It also includes the following two tasks for students after they learn about binary numbers.

Assessment task

In 100 words or less describe how place value is used in the binary number system. How is it similar or different from the way place value is used in the base 10 number system.

Reflection task 2

Reflect on your learning in this lesson. In the space below, enter:

3 recollections (things you remember),

2 observations (things you noticed), and

1 insight (something you fully understand the significance of).

    Three things I recall
    • how to use the Binary number system
    • What are QR codes and QR STUFF?
    • Ways to implement QR codes in classroom activities

    2 observations things I notice:
    Its not as daunting as I was dreading
    Most of the videos ate on youtube if I get stuck planning a lesson
