This is a brief description of Option 3 for the Patterns and Play task – a professional development session.

Task 2: Patterns & Play

Option 3: Professional development session with teachers.

Teachers will come prepared with several simple science experiments involving the collection of data that their students could conduct. Teachers either conduct an experiment or estimate results. They then discuss how the data could be organised and presented. Finally, teachers would plan how to develop a ‘Connect Extend Challenge’ visible thinking routine based on the activity (see http://www.visiblethinkingpz.org/VisibleThinking_html_files/03_ThinkingRoutines/03d_UnderstandingRoutines/ConnectExtendChallenge/ConnectExtend_Routine.html).

Repeat as time allows, possibly with different thinking routines.
