Option 3: Exploring past and present technologies – history of the camera and photography
Have pictures of cameras from various years. Get students to place in a timeline, discuss with class why they made the choices. Show students the camera which is the oldest and get them to discuss how they think the camera made pictures. Show video (see link) and then get students to discuss what the differences in technologies are between then and now with cameras.
This can lead to lots of different learning activities – various art lessons looking at positive and negative, printing and could lead into students inquiring about what will cameras and photography look like in 10 or 20 years time.
