Kerry Homer▸ Task 1: Introducing DTs
Task 1: Possibilities with digital technologies – Option 1
In a previous life I worked as a Research Pharmacologist, studying new drugs that could be used to treat a rare but severe disease called pulmonary hypertension. A very difficult disease to treat because very few drugs are selective for the pulmonary circulation, hence a systemic drop in blood pressure was often a serious and unwanted side effect. While reading about different careers I read about Biomedical Engineering and was interested to learn that these engineers do much more than just replace broken body parts, including developing new ways of delivering drugs. In patients with pulmonary hypertension, could a drug delivered in a novel way directly to the pulmonary circulation, be an effective treatment that avoids unwanted side effects?
