Amanda Hughes▸ Task 4: Digital Systems


During a CONSTAT conference, I attended a workshop on making and using moveable type. It was a fantastic cross curriculum idea, were students could create varying printing press words and sentences as well as explore technological advances. There is the possibility of exploring how word presses have evolved through time, with different upgrades in technologies. When students create their own printable words, phrases or pictures, they need to explore the fact that the need to be a mirror image. They can investigate different ink materials, different materials to create the press and how it wears through time. This topic can cover a diversity of subjects, from technology, history, science and English for example.
