Naomi Dreher▸ Task 3: Data- Representation
This '8 bit challenge' activity instructs students how to make their own 8 bit pixel art. It clearly explains how colour translates into binary data and how the computer uses additional meta data 9including resolution and bit depth) to enable it to interpret an image.
The activity as it is would be suitable for Yr5 or 6 and uses basic text-based coding for the students to create their pixel art. However, the material could easily be adapted for younger years by reducing the bit depth of the artwork and by creating physical art rather than coded art.
