Option 3:
I would show the class a series of photos of the telephone over time. Students could then look at the different components of the phone and its early limitations, lack of technology etc then compare to the phones of today, their portability, size, functionality etc.
They could then look at what it is that enables them to have the functions they have today e.g. data storage, taking photos etc.
