This website has links to lots of timelines. It would be a great starting point for discussions on when things were invented. Students could choose things from particular decades that interest them to research in more depth. It would be fun for students to create a quiz using one of the many quiz making sites, about when various inventions were made etc. They could also develop their own timelines. You could discuss what the problems were that each of the technologies solved. There are lots of possibilities here.
